Labrador Retriever
puppies are the most popular AKC breed as they
are intelligent, friendly, playful, athletic and
family-oriented. While great adult pets, lab puppies need
to be taught early to inhibit their biting instinct.
Labradors, with their webbed paws, otter-like tail and
waterproof coat are powerful swimmers and love to
swim. Labrador Retrievers are most commonly black but
also come in yellow and chocolate varieties. Adult
labs can grow to between 21 and 24 inches high and weigh
between 55 and 75 pounds. Labrador Retrievers need plenty
of exercise and ideally a yard to play in but can be indoor
pets if they are regularly taken outside for a brisk walk or
run. Labs also need plenty of companionship as they love
to be around people and play. Thus, owners need to be
able to dedicate ample time to their pet.
Common health problems for Labs are hip, elbow and eye
complications. If overfed, they are prone to weight
problems. Labradors need occasional grooming but do
not shed excessively. The following videos illustrate
several examples of Labrador puppies (labrador
